About Sikstar
Born in the heart of Greenwich Village, NYC in 1984, creativity has always been at the core of who I am. Raised by two artistic parents and surrounded by the vibrant energy of late ’80s and early ’90s New York graffiti, I was influenced early on by icons like Keith Haring and Andy Warhol. Art quickly became more than a hobby—it became a way of seeing and existing in the world. That evolved into Sikstar—a name rooted in perception. Is it sik as in unsettling, or sik as in incredible and transcendent? It's all about perspective—there’s always more than what meets the eye.
Over the last several years, my focus has shifted deeply into the world of mushrooms. What started as inspiration has grown into a lifestyle. From the late ’90s rave scene to now, post-brain surgery, fungi have taken center stage in my life and art. I forage wild mushrooms across the U.S., eat mostly what I find, and craft mushroom-based goods like salts, teas, and snacks that I sell alongside my artwork. My creations often highlight the whimsical and surreal nature of fungi, especially in my blacklight mushroom paintings and dimensional works.
I’m also currently planning a full van build to take my art, foraging, and traveling to the next level—bringing my studio and spore-hunting adventures on the road. Nature, movement, and creation all fuel one another, and I’m excited to explore more of the country with that synergy in mind.
My work draws from a vivid mix of psychedelic aesthetics, music, conspiracies, spirituality, and raw experience. I love using recycled and upcycled materials—spray cans, mannequins, lamps, and found objects—reimagining them into entirely new forms. My creative practice is rooted in the idea that nothing is truly “trash” and everything has potential to evolve.
Currently based between the San Francisco Bay Area and NYC, I continue to exhibit, take commissions, and collaborate with artists and collectors around the world. Always moving, always creating. Let’s connect.
